Linking Women Professionals Hosts Benefit Luncheon; Raises money for Veronica’s Voice Organization

Local Release, March 31, 2010 Registration is open for Linking Women; a benefit luncheon for Veronica’s Voice on April 8, 2010 at Bonefish Grill of Leawood. Featured guest speaker, Loren Halifax of WDAF Fox 4 News Kansas City, will address the group to share her efforts in bringing awareness to the increasing number of sexual exploitation rings in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Veronica’s Voice founder, Kristy Childs, will also be present to speak at the event, sharing her personal story as well as her mission to help support women within the direct community struggling to escape commercial sexual exploitation. Veronica’s Voice is Kansas City’s only recovery program dedicated solely to victims of prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation. The organization works directly with every client to provide individual peer counseling, licensed therapists, shelter, food, healthcare, drug treatment and legal advocacy.

Linking Women is a group of Kansas City area professionals committed to building strong business foundations by supporting one another as mentors, resources and referral partners. The monthly luncheon is an ongoing effort funded by members of the networking group with the additional assistance of monthly and yearly sponsors. The $20 individual registration collected per seat assists Veronica’s Voice in providing services to women in the recovery program.  Additional monetary support is obtained through monthly and yearly partner sponsorships. 5 Things You Can Do to Spark Media Interest

Media Coverage Can Make For Great Promotion

A little extra attention never hurts, and if you can get some media coverage for your business, you can get a lot of extra exposure. This is generally free exposure, at that.

I can speak from first-hand experience on this matter, because I get companies and PR firms coming to SmallBusinessNewz (not to mentionWebProNews) all the time wanting some coverage. This is a perfectly legitimate way to go about marketing your business, but as one who writes the articles and has the ability to control coverage (to some extent), I can tell you, we just don’t have time to cover everyone, even if we wanted to. I suspect that other publications could say the same thing.

So what can you do to increase your chances of media coverage?

1. Do Something That’s Different

The best way to generate enough interest in your business for a publication to cover it is to simply do something that makes you stand out. Do something different. Something new. Something that isn’t just a rehashed version of something we’ve seen time and time again. If it is interesting enough to appeal to us, we figure there is reason to believe it will be interesting to readers as well.

If your business is doing something interesting that nobody else is doing, and its worth talking about it, the right publications will (in theory) be interested in talking about it. Again, time and resources can often enter the equation though.
